The Oracle Business Intelligence Cloud Connector (BICC) is a specialized tool designed for efficiently extracting large volumes of business-intelligence data and related content from Oracle applications. Built to handle the heavy lifting of transferring vast amounts of data, Oracle BICC ensures that no data is lost during the process. It also offers robust security by adhering to the security standards of Oracle Applications Cloud.

Oracle BICC can manage large data volumes while supporting both full and incremental data extracts. It uses data stores to facilitate the movement of data. In simple terms, data stores act as intermediary storage areas, enabling staging, transformation, and finally loading of data to its destination, while maintaining data integrity and consistency throughout the process. By utilizing BICC Data Stores, organizations can automate the extraction process, scheduling both one-time and incremental extracts based on needs.

Oracle BICC can extract data from various Oracle products, such as Oracle Fusion Applications (including Oracle CX, Oracle HCM, Oracle ERP and Oracle SCM), and transfer it to external storage. These extracts can be either complete or partial and can be scheduled or run on-demand to ensure that data remains up-to-date without requiring manual intervention. BICC also supports incremental extracts, which capture only the data that has changed
since the last extraction. Additionally, Oracle BICC can monitor data extracts and check logs for updates.

Oracle BICC utilizes both SOAP and REST APIs for data extraction and integration. SOAP API is primarily used for scheduling and triggering BICC extracts, whether they are full or incremental, while the REST API offers more flexibility for real-time data integration. REST APIs are data-driven, enabling access to resources via URIs. SOAP, on the other hand, is more structured and focused on specific functionalities.

While REST APIs are preferred for better performance and scalability—particularly for low-volume, real-time transactions or when integrating with external systems—SOAP is generally used for managing tasks like scheduling BICC extract jobs. REST is favored for direct data access and updates.

Overall, BICC provides a streamlined and optimized approach to syncing data, making it easier for businesses to maintain accurate, up-to-date data for reporting and decision-making.

And while Oracle BICC is currently used to extract data from Oracle Cloud applications like Oracle CX, Oracle HCM, Oracle ERP and Oracle SCM, in the future Oracle plans to utilize it in other functional areas, such as Oracle EWDI applications.

We’ll keep you posted.
